Silence
Old Testament prophecy fulfilled by Jesus.
He would be accused and afflicted, but not open His mouth.
The prophet Isaiah was sent by God to Judah. God warned them they if they didn’t repent, they would be taken captive by Babylon. But at the same time, God gave Isaiah many prophesies about the coming Messiah. One chapter specifically pulls back the curtain of time to reveal many truths about Him: Isaiah 53. It is this chapter that shows Jesus, the Messiah who would not come as a conquering King-but as a suffering servant.
Notice that when God gave Isaiah the words, he wrote details about Jesus, the Messiah, as if they had already happened. There is no time with God as He is the past, present, and future.
“He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth.” Isaiah 53:7.
Jesus was the fulfillment of the words recorded by Isaiah more than 700 years before.
The night of Jesus’s arrest, He was taken before the chief priests and elders, Pilate and Herod. He was falsely accused over and over. And just as Isaiah wrote, He did not open His mouth.
Matthew tells us this:
“And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He made no answer. Then Pilate said to Him, ‘Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?’ And He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so that the governor was quite amazed.” Matthew 27:12-14.
“Now Herod was very glad when he saw Jesus; for he had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had been hoping to see some sign performed by Him. And he questioned Him at some length; but He answered him nothing.” Luke 23:8-9.
Jesus was accused of crimes He didn’t commit. Jesus was afflicted- mocked, spit on, and beaten for crimes He didn’t commit.
Jesus was crucified to pay for SIN. But He didn’t pay for His own sin-He paid for my sin and for yours.
