Is Jesus the Son of God?
Last week I wrote about Jesus’s title the Son of Man.
This week we will look at Jesus, the Son of God.
I’ve heard it said that Jesus didn’t call Himself God, or the Son of God. And I sometimes see articles on the internet while scrolling-which set out to “prove” that Jesus was not God, or that Jesus never said he was the Son of God. All lies. I do not read these or listen to those who blaspheme the Lord.
When you know The Truth, you recognize the lies and stay away from them.
Jesus, the second part of the trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), is God. During His earthly ministry He called Himself the Son of God many times, as did others.
God the Father called Jesus His Son.
Angels called Jesus the Son of God.
Eyewitnesses called Jesus the Son of God.
Demons called Jesus the Son of God.
The Roman centurion who crucified Him called Jesus the Son of God.
Below are just some of the verses from God’s word that confirm over and over that Jesus is the Son of God.
Angels called Jesus the Son of God:
When the angel Gabriel was sent by God to Mary to tell her that she would bare a son, he made it clear to the young woman that the child would be called the Son of God:
“And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.’” Luke 1:31-32.
“And Mary said to the angel, ‘How will this be, since I am a virgin?’ The angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; for that reason also the holy Child will be called the Son of God.’” Luke 1:32, 34-35.
God the Father called Jesus His Son:
When Jesus was baptized and came out of the water the voice of God the Father confirmed it:
“And behold, a voice out of the heavens, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.’” Matthew 3:17.
At the transfiguration of Jesus, the voice of God the Father confirmed it again:
“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!’” Matthew 17:5.
Jesus called Himself the Son of God:
In some of the best-known verses of the Bible, Jesus calls Himself the Son of God. When talking with Nicodemus, Jesus explained to the Pharisee how to be born again:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” John 3:16-18.
“For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him, may have eternal life; and I Myself will raise him up on the last day,.” John 6:40.
“All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son, except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.” Matthew 11:27.
Eyewitnesses called Jesus the Son of God:
The apostle John:
“But these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” John 20:31.
“And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.” I John 5:20.
The apostle Matthew, after seeing Jesus walk on water:
“And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, ‘You are certainly God’s Son.’” Matthew 14:33.
Demons called Jesus the Son of God:
“And whenever the unclean spirits beheld Him, they would fall down before Him and cry out saying, ‘You are the Son of God!’” Mark 3:11.
“And seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him; and crying out with a loud voice, he said, ‘What do I have to do with you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!’” Mark 5:6-7.
The enemies of Jesus understood that Jesus called Himself the Son of God:
“For this cause therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.” John 5:18.
“The Jews answered Him, ‘For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.’” Johan 10:33.
The Roman centurion who crucified Jesus called Him the Son of God:
“Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frighted and said, ‘Truly this was the Son of God!’” Matthew 27:54.
Jesus was, is, and will always be who He said He is.
